Drew is in the MTC! He was warmly greeted by other missionaries and is beyond ready to be there. I would love to be in there too to share his experiences - but he probably wouldn't like it.

Officially a Missionary

Drew is now officially a missionary. He was set apart tonight by President Snow. If he were all packed, he would want to be dropped off at the MTC tonight.

The picture is with Drew and Bishop Bradshaw.

A Great Sunday

Sunday was a nice day. Many family and friends came to participate in Sacrament Meeting and visit at home. A lot of Drew's friends from school came and he enjoyed seeing many people. He did a great job on his talk and it was very uplifting.

Monday has been spent with an enjoyable breakfast and then doing some almost final shopping. Checking what he has to pack and if we have missed anything. We have come up with a few things but they are minor.

The anticipation level dropped after yesterday but I have a feeling it is going to increase as the packing begins and family meals with everyone together get fewer and fewer. Drew has been cleaning his room and it was surreal to think that he won't be there for a couple of years. It makes me sad but also happy that he is ready to serve and can't wait to get out there.

Keep being stellar, Drew!

Another big day today. Drew is speaking in Sacrament meeting and we are looking forward to it. I believe he has studied and prepared well for what he is going to say.

We have been preparing for the family & friend gathering today too. We look forward to seeing them and hope everyone has an opportunity to come and say hello and spend some time together.

It's Setting In

Yesterday we went shopping for clothes. We got pretty much all his clothing. It is getting more real that he leaves pretty soon!

While at the store, we met a couple who were called as mission president to Argentina (I hope I remember that correctly) - Brother & Sister Ayres. They asked where Drew was serving his mission and we told them, Honduras San Pedro Sula West. They were excited and wondered who his mission president is. We looked at our paperwork and told him it was the Dester's and he said, "I know them very well! They are wonderful people!" After some talking, Bro Ayres asked Drew if he would like to speak with his mission president! That was a surprise but the call was made and, with some hesitance, Drew took the call. "Hi President," I heard him say. He then had a short talk with his mission president and got his phone number to call him if he had questions! That was SO awesome!

Brother Ayres was so kind to make that phone call. It made it a more memorable day for us all!

Preparation in Full Swing

Drew and Callie have finished their school year at Snow College. Tomorrow (Monday) his physical preparation begins in full swing. Clothing, supplies, packing - all those fun things.

He went to the temple last weekend, which we enjoyed very much. Vickie and I went down for the Arise Choir (which Callie and Drew sang in), Drew's temple endowment, and Callie's Institute recognition. Callie got a 4 year certificate for two years of college.

If you have any suggestions for what to prepare him with for the Honduras area, send them our way by posting here!
